 A bit about our Jewelry
Richard designs each piece in his head first then makes an individual ‘jig’ to bend and hammer the piece into the shape he desires. This time consuming process results in a unique and beautiful piece that you will never see in a mass-produced jewelry store.

All parts of his earrings, except the ear-wire, are handmade and hammered, from the hammered body of the earring right down to each individual , intricate and tiny piece .

He makes many designs, but only a few of each, and some designs are not repeated.
All Jewelry is clear-coated to prevent tarnish

 Sheets become sails
 When November winds wail
   Need extra pins
     To counteract the wind
       When a wintery feeling

A different Pot Roast....Rainy and cool

Another rainy day here, this is an old time favorite recipe of mine, perfect to have simmering on the back of the stove or in the crockpot on a dreary day!
Prepare to be amazed at this combination of flavors!

Taste of the Pacific Pot Roast

4 lb. Chuck Roast (approx.)
Lemon juice
6 slices Bacon
1 Lg. Onion
3/4 cup fresh or canned (whole) Tomatoes
1 1/2 cup Orange Juice
1 Bay Leaf
1 teaspoon Thyme
1/2 teaspoon Nutmeg

Brush meat all sides with lemon juice. Set aside, fry bacon till done,
remove from pan and cook chopped onion, remove from pan.

In drippings brown meat on all sides. Heat tomatoes and orange juice till hot.
Put all in large pan or crockpot with spices. Simmer on stovetop or
woodstove for approximately 3 hours, or in crockpot 2 hours on high
and then 4-6 hours on low. Serve with cooked rice, with some juices
drizzled over the rice.

November weather......Rain...40's

A very rainy Friday here. Here's my view from upstairs.

Those silver ribbons in the field, are excesses of water shedding to form rivulets that flow into Begley's Creek on the edge of our property.
A wonderful day to read, don't you think?
And I've been wanting to recommend these books to you. They were given to me by a dear friend years ago, and I thoroughly enjoyed them.
Hope you will also. The first to read is "Seasons of My Life".

Farm Life...Sunny...36*

Trying to bring in more wood while it's not so cold to have the door
open. Doing it with the tractor bucket sure beats the way I did it all
those years with a wheelbarrow.

Aaahhh these modern inventions!!!
Sophie joins in from a safe place while Lonesome supervises from
inside. They're both hoping for Taco Soup and 1-2-3-4-Biscuits, which
they can smell cooking for supper.

However since they don't read the cookbook and help me
prepare it, shouldn't they just have cat food?

Sunday Quotes...Cold

Ode to November

O sing of November, a beautiful time,

When the sound of the wind seems to whisper in rhyme.

When the trees drop their leaves in a golden spray,

And ever shorter grows the day.

O sing of the fall time, when dew turns to frost,

When the roses of summer are but sleeping, not lost;

When the world shows around it a gorgeous array,

And ever shorter grows the day.

O sing of the autumn, when falleth the cold,

When a wintery feeling begins to take hold;

When the world's chilly breath blows your sorrows away,

And ever shorter grows the day.

O sing of the season when the wind chills the bones,

When the soft, fertile ground freezes harder than stones;

When a bittersweet feeling envelopes the gray,

And ever shorter grows the day.

O sing of November, when the year groweth old,

When the wind whistles stories that haven't been told;

When in joy to the Maker of autumn we pray,

And ever shorter grows the day.

Time for Swans in Arkansas again.....Crisp and clear...40*

It's almost time for the  full moon of November which reminded me of something I want to tell you all.
Every year in November, on the full moon, the Trumpeter Swans come to Magness Lake, near Heber Springs, Arkansas. (I suggest calling the chamber for directions, it is out of the way!!! 1-501-362-2444) If you live in the hills, the old saying "you can't get there from here" certainly applies, but for all who make the effort you will be rewarded. Here is a picture we took when we visited a few years ago. So fellow Arkansans, or those who may be visiting, here's something natural to do in the Natural State. By the way the Swans leave the same way they come, right on schedule with the full moon in February.

Farm Adventures...Windy...sunny...46*

Marmalade was watching me feed chickens this morning, but when I
looked around this is where I found her. I told her if she was going
to go out on a limb she ought to pick a bigger one!.

This reminded me of
Years ago, when after hours of coaxing, we decided a frightened cat was NOT coming down from a tree by herself, this is what my husband did.
(By the way she was too far up for even a ladder) He got the longest piece of PVC pipe he could find and tied a large wool coat around the end with baling twine.
He held it up against the trunk and with continual praise told her she could do it.
It took awhile, but she must have recognized the possibility because
she hitched her way to it and stuck her claws in the coat. I still
shudder to see him holding that swaying pipe as he lowered it, but she
did hold on until we could reach her with our hands.

Directly she was at the door and when I let her in this is where she went.
Better choice, don't you think?

Snippets & Snatches...Rainy...50's

Fall sure turns our thoughts to food, doesn't it?
Perhaps there's an instinct to take in more calories to build up for the winter.
I sure do see that in my goats, who are stuffing themselves lately.
I'm happy to see all the comments about cooking without a recipe. (Follow us on FB for random questions like this! )
That's the way I am for sure! When you can only get to town once a week and sometimes even  longer between trips, you sure learn to be creative on the good days, and improvise all other times.
Reading everyone's comments brought to mind an
incident from long ago. ............

We were invited to an anniversary gathering and I was asked to bring the Macaroni Salad.
A family member spoke
right up and said "I hope you'll use a recipe." Humph!!!!! that same
family member often opens the refrigerator door and says "there's
nothing to eat in here." And yet meals are served every day!!!!!
Anyway because I'm in the house more I've been looking through old
cookbooks lately and found this fact.

The first known printed cookbook
was De Honesta Voluptate by Bartholomaeus de Platina, printed in
Venice in 1475.

Perhaps he didn't like his wife always "winging it"
either!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway one of the great pleasures of life
is that you never stop learning. And that certainly is true in using
the great varieties of food in the creation!

Epicurus wrote "The fountain & root of every good is the pleasure of the stomach".
So let's serve whatever it is with love and cheerfulness as yesterday's
QUOTE said.

(Remember TODAY is the LAST DAY to enter to WIN our new cookbook "EVERYTHING SEASON" just stop by our FB page and see post pinned at the top of the page www.facebook.com/jonquiljunction)

Sunday Quotes......Partly cloudy...40's

Layered Cabbage Soup....Sunny...50's

Now that the days are shorter and turning cooler, our thoughts turn to simmering soups of all kinds, nothing like coming into a bowl of hot soup after a long cold day, wouldn't you agree??
(remember there is still time to enter to WIN our new cookbook "EVERYTHING SEASON" just stop by our FB page and see post pinned at the top of the page www.facebook.com/jonquiljunction)

Layered Cabbage Soup

6 cups chicken broth
6 cups coarsely chopped cabbage
2 cups chopped kale or other greens
2 cups chopped carrots
3 cloves garlic
6 ounces Kielbasa or other hard sausage
1 tsp. tarragon
2 tsp. salt
Combine all of above and bring to boil, then cover and simmer 30 minutes.
Meanwhile stir 1 tsp. tarragon into 1 1/2 cups thick yogurt (plain Greek yogurt or strained homemade), set aside.
Place thick slice of sourdough or rye bread in each of 6 serving bowls.
In 4 tablespoons of butter sautĆ© 2 cups sliced onions.
Cook until just starting to brown and then put on top on bread.
Remove meat from soup, slice and add to bowls. Sprinkle each portion with 1/4
cup shredded cheddar cheese.(See pic on left.) Ladle hot cabbage soup
into bowls. Top with dollops of yogurt and sprinkle Smoked Paprika
over yogurt.

This is a delicately flavored soup that is surprisingly filling.
Give it a try!

Rearranging Recipes...Sunny...60's

How many of you have your recipes stored in a nutshell in your memory
and then go searching for the book it's in??

In addition to these pictures, I have many more books, as well as MANY
3x5   hand-copied ring binders FULL.
And SCADS of loose pieces of paper that have yet to be copied!!!
Then if your like me you see yet another book you must have?
I think if  you enjoy eating you probably have the same situation.
And in defense   of this behavior think of those special, one-of-a-kind recipes you  would have never found if you were a minimalist instead of a hoarder!!!
AHHHHHHHHHHH "variety is the spice of life" my Mom always said.

This   coming Tues. Nov. 17, is the drawing for our cookbook "Everything
Season", so enter if you would like one or tell a friend so that they
can enter. And you might just add it to your 'collection' too !

And in case you missed our Post, earlier this weekwe now have it ready as a Digital  Download for you for  just  $5 .00.
And for those ordering a hard copy, a free  Digital Download is included with your book.

Snippets & Snatches....cooler...50's

I'm still cleaning out old boxes. I found these booklets and clip-outs from
Magazine's  that my Mom used to save.
She had such a flair for  Interior Design, upholstery, decorating and sewing,
she was always experimenting with decorating ideas.
That would have been an excellent career choice for her!
I remember her trying to improve our tract house appearance, you know where every
house in a row looked the same. She snapped photos of the house, got
the roll of film developed, and then hand drew different ideas on the
pictures  shutters,  shrubs, different colors, etc.
I guess she was really ahead of her time as  now we have computer  programs that do just that!

If you look closely you can see it sold for .52 cents

Who else remembers the popular Avocado green  dĆ©cor period?

Too bad the pictures are in black and white, we can't appreciate the
avocado green vinyl and gimp!
I inherited quite a bit of her fabric and still have a lot of it, perhaps
I could find some avocado green !

I must admit in my almost 40 years of living in the south
I've yet to see the
"Opulence of Gone with the Wind, still in existence"

Please click on 'older posts' to see all our posts! Thanks :)

The items we offer are as varied as the weather in these hills!
Hand-hammered copper jewelry, handmade wood case clocks, biscuit and rag quilts, handsewn infant gifts, handcrafted soap, & homespun tales and photos of our menagerie of four footed and feathered friends.
