Maple Doodle O's...cloudy...soggy...

Here's a snippet from the past. A recipe and a package from long ago
when we sold dry mixes based on our "Café" day favorites.

     MAPLE DOODLE O'S

1 1/4 cups sugar
1 cup shortening, OR soft margarine
2 eggs
Cream above together and then add:

3/4 cup quick oats
Sift together:

2 cups flour
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Optional~2 tablespoons sugar mixed with 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg (for sprinkling)
Add to wet mixture along with 1 teaspoon Maple Extract and stir
thoroughly. Drop by spoonful's on greased baking sheet.

Bake in 375* oven for about 8 minutes, until barely firm to the touch.
They won't brown.
Optional- sprinkle with sugar, nutmeg mix while still warm.
Makes about 2 dozen..
